Malware Attack or virus is a type of modern Cybersecurity Threat. A cyber threat is a malicious activity/attempt that targets to damage data, high confidential information(personal or otherwise), or disrupt digital life in general. Cyber attacks come as computer viruses, data breaches, and through a Denial of Service (DoS) attacks.
Apart from Malware Attacks, other types of cybersecurity threats are Phishing, Spear Phishing, “Man in the Middle” (MitM) attack, Trojans, Ransomware, Denial of Service attack or Distributed Denial of Service Attack (DDoS), Attacks on IoT Devices, Data Breaches and Malware on Mobile Apps.
Malware is the common name for a number of malicious software versions. Malware is a code developed by cyberattackers. This is designed to harm data or gain authorized access to a network. This typically comes as a file/link over email or as a request user to click on the link.
Types of Malware
This is the most common type of malware. This is attached with a malicious code to clean code and the virus waits for a careless or unsuspecting user to execute them. This is so similar with a biological virus. It is able to spread rapidly and widely.
Worms get their name due to the method they spread and infect the system. After being infected by a machine, It quickly spreads to the entire network.
This spies what the user does in the machine. It observes all the things in the computer and It can collect such as credit card details/passwords and all other sensitive information without the user knowing.
This is like Greek soldiers hiding in a giant horse to deliver a sudden attack, this type of malware hides within itself and behaves like legitimate software. This breaks the backdoors of the security in the machine and opens the door for other malware types.
This is a bit different from what we talked about above. This is also known as scareware. This type of malware comes with a big price. They can lockdow a system or lockout a user account until the ransom is paid. Their target audience is multi million companies/organizations in the world.
